Bryan Smith, me and the kids drove from Norman to the area just E of Dodge City, KS, with the hope of seeing a supercell. We did find a rotating storm, but tornadoes were not on the agenda for us today. Instead, we encountered a beautiful mammatus display around Woodward, OK, on the drive home to end our 2009 chase season.

Rotating wall cloud a few miles S of Kinsley, KS. Several blobs of blowing dust and rotating low clouds accompanied this mesocyclone a few minutes later just N of US 183, as well as two small power flashes. However, we saw no clear evidence of a tornado

The LP supercell did not let us down - it produced this fantastic mammatus display as seen from the W side of Woodward.
